How to Install HOBOware and HOBOware Pro software
To initially install HOBOware, you must be an administrator. (You do not need to be an administrator to run HOBOware once it is installed).
Download HOBOware or HOBOware Pro from our Website:
- Use the link below to download Free HOBOware or select the option to purchase and download HOBOware Pro for either Windows or MAC (if needed you can purchase the USB drive format here as well: https://www.onsetcomp.com/products/software/hoboware
Install HOBOware:
- Windows:
- Once downloaded use Windows Explorer to navigate to the download folder and double click on the file named HOBOware_Free_Setup.exe (for HOBOware) or the file named HOBOware_Setup.exe (for HOBOware Pro) follow the prompts to install.
- MAC:
- Once downloaded open the Finder and drag and drop the file to the Application folder to install:
- HOBOware_Free_Signed_installer.dmg (for HOBOware ) HOBOware_Signed_Installer.dmg (for HOBOware Pro)
Installing HOBOware on MAC computers-additional support may be required
If you experience issues with connection, freezing or trouble accessing HOBOware preferences You may have to reinstall the software to correct. Most likely the OS is not allowing the HOBOware software access to the USB port.
- Check the System Preferences -> Security and Privacy -> General screen and see if Onset software is blocked.
- uninstall HOBOWare from your MAC.
- Reinstall it.
- After installing it DO NOT open HOBOWare
- Instead go to the Apple Icon
- System Preferences / Security And Privacy.
Under "General", you should see the prompt below. You will need to allow this to be able to use the USB peripherals.

- Reboot the computer.
- Open HOBOware
Activating HOBOware Pro The first time after purchase:
When you open HOBOware Pro, you will be prompted to enter your license key from the email confirmation or online receipt. Type the license key in the License Key Manager and click OK. You will need to reopen HOBOware after entering the license key (you will not be required to enter the license key when upgrading to subsequent versions of HOBOware).
How to Update HOBOware
Periodically there will be updates to the HOBOware application that will need to be installed.
When you open HOBOware you may see a prompt to check for updates. If your network allows these types of updates, you can select yes on this prompt and if an update is available, it will install and if not, you will be notified that you are currently up to date:
