HOBO MX801 Conductivity, Temperature & Depth Data Logger
Important Information
Requires the HOBOconnect app, and a compatible mobile device or Windows computer. System requirements for the app can be found at the bottom of our HOBOconnect software page.
Overview
This data logger kit gives you everything you need to deploy this solution for monitoring conductivity, salinity, and depth (CTD). Users still have the flexibility to add further parameters like dissolved oxygen (DO) using our 2-sensor adapter. Also calculating specific conductance, salinity, and total dissolved solids (TDS), this logger records absolute pressure, which is later converted to water level readings by our HOBOconnect software.
To compensate for barometric pressure changes, you can use a HOBO MX20L Water Level logger as a barometric reference. See our FAQ section for more information.
Features
- 4-electrode conductivity sensor provides wide measurement range for monitoring freshwater or saltwater
- Conductivity sensor is centrally located to minimize effects from stilling wells or protective guards
- Durable ceramic water level sensor, located in the sensor tip for accurate measurement of shallow water levels
- 1” diameter for use in narrow wells
- Temperature sensor placement near the sensor tip for fast response time
- Specially treated stainless steel holds up in saltwater

FAQs
The MX801 logger records absolute pressure, which is later converted to water level readings by HOBOconnect software. To compensate for barometric pressure changes, you can use a HOBO MX20L Water Level logger, recommend the MX20L-04 for highest accuracy, as a barometric reference. The barometric reference device is typically deployed in the same well or at the same location as the water level of interest, but rather than being placed in the water column, it is deployed above the water in air.
Since barometric pressure readings are consistent across a region (except during fast-moving weather events), you can generally use barometric pressure readings that are taken within 15 km (10 miles) of the logger or more without significantly degrading the accuracy of the compensation. This means you only need to use one MX20L logger as a barometric reference for any loggers within this range.
