Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The HOBOnet indoor wireless sensor network is a cost-effective, scalable remote monitoring system from HOBO Data Loggers designed for tracking indoor conditions in warehouses, cold storage facilities, data centers, museums, and in any commercial or residential building. Using a HOBO RX station as the network hub, up to 50 HOBOnet wireless sensors stream temperature, humidity, CO2, and other data like energy use via a 900 MHz sub-GHz mesh technology to LI-COR Cloud, where you can view conditions and receive alarms remotely.
HOBOnet indoor systems are commonly deployed in:
- Cold storage and refrigerated warehouses
- Data centers and server rooms
- Museums, archives, and preservation vaults
- Pharmaceutical and laboratory storage rooms
- Commercial offices and retail buildings
- Residential buildings and complexes
HOBOnet indoor sensors communicate via 900 MHz sub-GHz mesh wireless technology to a central HOBO RX station (RX3000 Indoor or RX2105 MicroRX). The station connects via cellular to LI-COR Cloud, giving you 24/7 remote access to live conditions, dashboards, and alarm notifications — no Wi-Fi required at the monitoring site.
HOBOnet sensors achieve up to 600 meters (approximately 2,000 ft) line-of-sight range. The 900 MHz sub-GHz mesh technology provides stronger signal penetration through walls, shelving, and building structures compared to standard 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi systems, making it well suited for large warehouses and multi-room deployments. Range can be extended further by adding wireless repeaters.
The RX3000 Indoor is the more powerful option: it supports up to 10 wired + 50 wireless sensor inputs, expansion modules (analog input, relay output), and AC power. The RX2105 MicroRX is more compact, supports up to 5 wired + 50 wireless inputs, and runs on battery or AC power — making it ideal for deployments where a smaller footprint or portable setup is needed.
No electrician is required for HOBOnet sensors. Communication to the station is either plug-and-play external sensors or completely wireless. The RX station uses cellular connectivity (not your building's Wi-Fi or IT network) to send data to LI-COR Cloud. Setup typically takes four steps: mount the station, link sensors, configure via LI-COR Cloud, and start monitoring.
