HOBO MicroRX Water Level Station
The MicroRX Water Level Station uses HOBOlink, Onset’s cloud-based software to access data with a web browser or mobile device. LEARN MORE.
Overview
The HOBO MicroRX Water Level Station is a cellular, web-enabled water level monitoring solution for stormwater, floodwater, irrigation, hydrologic, and environmental applications. Pre-programmed water flow formulas for select weirs, flumes, and a stage discharge table result in an easy and intuitive configuration.
New water flow and accumulated rainfall calculations, which are performed directly on the station at time of measurement, trigger immediate notifications of critical water level conditions.
The compact and durable station, together with the non-vented water level sensor, enables harsh condition deployments and reliable monitoring. The optional integrated solar panel or battery power, with a wide range of plug-and-play smart sensors, supports flexible environmental monitoring.
Highlighted Features
- Station-side alarms for water flow and accumulated rainfall triggered at time of measurement
- Non-vented ceramic water level sensor with a choice of four ranges
- Interchangeable, Kevlar-reinforced water level sensor cables
- Integrated barometric pressure sensor
- Compact IP66/NEMA 4X enclosure
- Built-in LCD confirms proper setup and operation
- Two power options:
- Integrated 1.7 W solar panel with rechargeable battery pack
- 5 W and 15 W external solar panels can be added (RX2104 only)
- User-replaceable AA lithium batteries
- Integrated 1.7 W solar panel with rechargeable battery pack

* Water Level Accuracy: With accurate reference water level measurement, known water density, and a stable temperature environment. System Water Level Accuracy equals the sum of the Barometric Water Level Accuracy plus the selected sensor Water Level Accuracy.
** Raw Pressure Accuracy: Absolute pressure sensor accuracy includes all sensor drift, temperature, and hysteresis-induced errors.
*** Changes in Temperature: Allow 20 minutes in water to achieve full temperature compensation of the pressure sensor. There can be up to 0.5% of additional error due to rapid temperature changes.
Measurement accuracy also depends on temperature response time.

If you have a question that’s not listed below, contact our Sales Application Specialists, who will be happy to help you!
Can I calculate water flow using the HOBO MicroRX Water Level Station?
Yes, the station is configured with pre-installed calculations for V-notch weirs, general flumes (e.g. Parshall, Ramp, and Cutthroat), and a stage-discharge table.
What alarms are available?
The MicroRX Water Level Station has alarms that trigger for accumulated rainfall and water level/flow at time of measurement.
Can I have more than one accumulated rainfall alarm programmed at the same time?
The RX2100 can only have one accumulated rainfall alarm set up at a time.
Can my data be exported to any hydrology software?
Yes, data can already be used with Network for Environment and Weather Applications (NEWA), DataWise, and the Florida Automated Weather Network (FAWN). Integration with Aquarius is coming soon.
How should I mount the water level sensor?
There are multiple ways to mount the water level sensor.
- Suspend the sensor in a 2” well with a dedicated Onset well cap
- Suspend the sensor in larger wells with a reducer to Onset’s well cap, or your own well cap.
- If mounting in a storm sewer, use a PVC pipe with holes and one end resting on the bottom of the catchment and the top secured to the side of the catchment access.
Do I need a well cap?
A well cap will protect your water level sensor from rainfall and debris. It is uniquely designed to keep the water level sensor cable securely in place, which is especially helpful when using longer cables.
Why would I need an additional solar panel if I choose the integrated solar MicroRX Water Level Station?
You may want an additional solar panel to boost power to ensure connectivity at the maximum 10-minute rate. It may also be a good option if your station is not deployed in full sun.

The water level sensor cable provides the connection between the HOBO MicroRX Water Level Station (RX2100-WL) and the water level sensor. Cables can be ordered in lengths from 1 meter to 400 meters for deployment in a wide range of applications. The 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 30, and 60-meter cable lengths are standard and typically in stock. Custom cable lengths require a lead time of one to two weeks.
PLEASE NOTE: Custom cables are ineligible for return.
2-meter tripod with mast used for mounting loggers and other sensors in a weather station application. This tripod is not adjustable for sloping surfaces. (Cross arms, data logger, sensors, and radiation shield sold separately.)
The MX2001 water level sensor is used with the HOBO Bluetooth water level data logger (MX2001) and with the HOBO MicroRX Water Level Stations (RX2103 and RX2104) for accurate water pressure, temperature, and water level measurements. These sensors are available in four depth ranges, in stainless steel or titanium (recommended for use in saltwater).
This Rain Gauge Smart Sensor measures rainfall with intensity up to five inches per hour with a resolution of 0.01 inch, and 1% accuracy for rainfall rates up to 1"/hour. The tipping bucket mechanism is mounted on a stainless steel shaft with brass bearings. This model includes a 2m cable.
Also available in a wireless model for use with the HOBOnet Field Monitoring System.
