Using a light intensity data logger as an inexpensive light meter

HOBO light intensity data loggers, such as the UA-002-08, are designed to give you a general comparative idea of how much light there is in an area: sunlight v. shade, lights on/off, etc. If you plan on recording specific lighting information or absolute values, these data loggers will not work for you.

Creating a voltage divider

A voltage divider will drop the voltage of the input signal to the level the data logger can measure.

Data logger is shutting off prematurely

A discharge of static electricity may cause a running data logger to stop recording. Precautions should be taken to prevent this while handling the data logger. Discharges may occur when there is a charge difference between the data logger and a cable being connected to it or when a person touches an exposed jack.

U12 input impedance

This note looks at input impedance characteristics of the HOBO U12 loggers with external inputs. "Rs" and "VA" in the attached diagram represent your source impedance.

How do I delete, erase, or clear data from my data logger's memory?

When you relaunch a HOBO data logger, the device reverts to the beginning of its memory and starts writing new data over the old.

Will H-series loggers work with HOBOware software?

With the exception of the H21-002 Microstation, HOBOware software is not compatible with H-series loggers.
