How can you save energy brewing beer?
Fittingly, a group of students from the University of Michigan looked into it.
Listen to this podcast that explains The Green Brewery Project—how a group of four engineering master’s students at the University of Michigan teamed up to make beer brewing more energy efficient. Jarett Diamond, Jazmine Bennett, Kerby Smithson and Gary Fischer used Onset HOBO data loggers to track the energy used by the Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti, Michigan for their engineering master’s project.
The team collected data on a gas-fired boiler, a brewhouse glycol chiller, some cold room refrigeration equipment and an air-handler to understand where most of the energy is used. Elsa Partan spoke with Jarett Diamond and Jazmine Bennett about "The Green Brewery Project". (Here's a YouTube video about the project.)
