How can I tell what version of Java is installed?

You can find this by running a command in a Command Prompt window.

  1. Get to Command Prompt by clicking on the Start button on the Taskbar, then click All Programs, then Accessories, then Command Prompt.
  2. Once the Command Prompt window is open, key in this command: java <space> -version
  3. Press the Enter key on the keyboard. The command will display about three lines of text that identify the Java component versions. The first line is the report of the overall Java run time environment.
