1. Open HOBOconnect.
  2. Locate your logger on the Devices tab and select the tile to connect to it.
  3. Select Configure & Start.
  4. Review the default configuration options, update them as necessary, and select Start.

Congratulations. Your logger is now collecting data! The rest of the guide presents basic information about HOBOconnect and MX Bluetooth Data Loggers. Detailed information, including logger mounting requirements can be found in the product manual for your data logger, which you can find by searching our Resources.

First, download the free HOBOconnect app to your phone, tablet, or computer. HOBOconnect is available for Android devices from the Google Play Store, for iOS devices via the Apple App Store, and for Windows from our website.

Enable Bluetooth® in your mobile device or computer settings, if prompted.

You may need to insert batteries into your new logger; some loggers require additional calibration steps prior to first launch. Detailed information, including logger mounting requirements can be found in the product manual for your data logger, which you can find by searching our Resources.

Once your logger is powered on and you've downloaded HOBOconnect, you're ready to configure and start your logger. Configuration sets important options such as when the logger starts and stops, and how often to record measurements.

  1. Launch HOBOconnect. HOBOconnect opens on the Devices tab, which shows all MX loggers within range of your phone, tablet, or computer.
  2. Select your new logger.
  3. If you don't see your logger listed, press the button on your logger one or two times to wake it up.  Not all loggers have this wake up feature. If you own multiple HOBO loggers, use the search and filter options in HOBOconnect to help you locate your new logger.
  4. Select Configure & Start. The logger comes with pre-set defaults. Update them if necessary and select Start.

By default, measurements are shown in US units. You can change the display to SI units (metric) by updating the Settings.

  1. Select the Settings tab.
  2. In the User Settings section of the page, select either US or SI units.  All measurements are displayed and exported based on this selection.

You can view a graph of current conditions on the Live Data tab.

  1. Select the Devices tab.
  2. Select your logger.
  3. Select View Live Data to view current conditions.  You may find landscape mode provides easier viewing on phones and tablets.

You can download data from the logger at any time without stopping the logger. Once you've downloaded data, it is available to export and share.

To download data

  1. Select the Devices tab.
  2. Select your logger.
  3. Select Download Data.
  4. When the download is complete, you can export and share the downloaded file. Follow the prompts to complete this process.
  5. View the downloaded files on the Data tab.

Loggers automatically stop logging based on the Stop Logging setting specified on the Configure & Start page.

You can pause the logger if your logger supports the pause feature and you have selected that option on the Configure & Start page.

To specify stop and pause options:

  1. Select the Devices tab.
  2. Select your logger.
  3. Select Configure & Start.

You can link your HOBOconnect app to HOBOlink, Onset's web software platform. HOBOlink provides reliable, remote access to your data from any web browser. Once linked, any data you download from loggers is automatically uploaded and stored in HOBOlink.

To create a HOBOlink account or link and existing HOBOlink account in the HOBOconnect app:

  1. Select the Settings tab.
  2. Select Create New Account in the HOBOlink section and complete the account creation process.

To link an existing HOBOlink account:

  1. Select Connect Account and enter your HOBOlink username and password.

Your HOBOconnect app is now linked to your HOBOlink account!

Once you've linked HOBOconnect to your HOBOlink account, newly downloaded files are automatically uploaded to HOBOlink. If your device has data limitations, you can limit uploads to occur only when connected to Wi-Fi by toggling the Wi-Fi only option in the Settings tab of HOBOconnect.

You can also view the status of files queued for upload in the HOBOlink section of the Settings tab. Select the Readout Queue Status option to view a list of pending uploads and their status.
