BOURNE, MA, May 2, 2003 —Onset Computer Corporation, the leader in reliable, battery-powered data loggers and weather stations, today introduced a new Palm-based infrared data readout capability for the company's HOBO® Water Temp Pro underwater data loggers. Using a Palm handheld running the company's HandCar™ EX data transport software, users can now quickly and easily offload Water Temp Pro data loggers deployed in streams, lakes, oceans, and other field sites without a laptop PC.
"In the past, retrieving data from underwater data loggers meant that you had to either bring the logger back to an office PC, which can be time consuming, or take a laptop with a base station into the field, which could cause the laptop to get wet," says Paul Gannett, product marketing manager for Onset. Both approaches can be very inconvenient. "With our new HandCar™ EX software, the user can now simply point the Water Temp Pro logger into the Palm's infrared port to read out data and logger status."
In addition to providing on-location infrared data logger readout and launch capabilities, HandCar™ EX also provides other useful functions. For example, the software enables users to start loggers on location, view current measurements, and check battery status. Data from multiple loggers can be stored on the Palm handheld, and later offloaded to a PC for graphing, analysis, or data export using the company's easy-to-use BoxCar® Pro 4.3 software.
The HOBO Water Temp Pro data logger sets a new standard for monitoring temperatures in underwater and condensing environments. Precision sensors and twelve-bit resolution provide ±0.2°C accuracy over the full measurement range of 0 to 50°C in water and -20° to 70°C in air. A temperature-compensated real-time clock provides better than 1 minute per month time accuracy across the normal operating range of the logger.
HandCar™ EX software, which is bundled with Onset's HandCar™ 1.1, is currently available for shipping for $40. Water Temp Pro data loggers are also available for $110.
