Root Cause Analysis Technician

Summary

The Root Cause Analysis Technician will provide critical information to improve the quality, performance, and dependability of Onset products. Onset develops and sells data loggers across a spectrum of environmental markets.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with and report to the Sustaining Engineering team lead and apply problem-solving techniques to identify root cause analysis down to the component/part level for both field and internal product issues  
  • Prioritize work based on the Sustaining Engineering team’s metrics by completing analysis within the specified goals
  • Meticulously record steps taken in the root cause investigation and record outcomes in Onsets investigation tracking system
  • Build trend reports and communicate findings to team lead and engineering management
  • Pair electrical technician skills with process/workflow optimization techniques to create continuous improvements to the overall quality of Onset products
  • Be eager to learn and willing to take feedback; have the initiative to seek opportunities to help continually improve Onset products and processes

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to complete root cause and failure analysis
  • Familiarity with equipment typically found in an electronics lab environment
  • A strong understanding of electro-mechanical design and manufacturing
  • At least five years experience in an engineering technician role
  • Ability to solder, including surface mount and through-hole components
  • Familiarity with problem-tracking tools and ERP systems

Senior Quality & Lean Manager

Summary

The Senior Quality & Lean Manager will report to the VP of Operations and work with various site leaders. This position is responsible for establishing the vision, roadmap, and culture required to achieve “zero quality defects” and eliminate all other forms of waste through lean principles and a strong continuous improvement (CI) culture. This includes an end-to-end focus on lean and quality from our suppliers, through our manufacturing processes, and ultimately to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong CI culture
  • Lead and organize customer, agency-driven audits
  • Assure the requirements of our ISO and other quality-management systems are maintained; includes quality reporting, corrective/preventive actions, internal auditing system, and customer-complaint tracking throughout the company
  • Perform statistical analysis/capability analysis using Six Sigma, DMAIC problem-solving, 8D problem-solving, or other similar methodologies
  • Establish and communicate the vision for utilizing lean principles and a CI culture to drive operational excellence
  • Work to develop and execute a roadmap to achieve our long-term lean and quality vision, as well as our short- and medium-term goals and objectives
  • Work with company leaders to analyze data, identify areas of opportunity, and implement Kaizen activities or corrective actions to address problem areas/opportunities
  • Evaluate our organizational structure and recommend improvements to best utilize our lean/CI and quality resources
  • Work with the various company leaders to drive the use of standardized lean and quality tools, share best practices, and benchmark world-class companies to achieve a higher level of operational excellence
  • Coordinate activities related to addressing major customer quality issues; communicate problem resolution to customers and senior management, as required, in a timely manner
  • Contribute to annual budgetary process and take responsibility for quality department budgetary compliance
  • Lead and facilitate Kaizen events in support of our goals

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree  in a discipline related to Operations or Engineering
  • Ten to 15 years of experience in progressively-responsible lean- and quality-related positions and a minimum five years of experience in a senior level lean and/or quality leadership role; experience in both a “make to stock” and “make to order” discrete production and assembly is required
  • CQE, CQM, and/or Black Belt in Lean or Six Sigma preferred
  • Required to travel 5% to 10%

  • Proven record of accomplishment in electronic manufacturing environments of leading the lean/quality efforts for major businesses/corporations, with demonstrated tangible improved results that positively influenced business efficiencies and costs
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, and ability to effectively handle multiple priorities
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to identify trends and establish proactive corrective actions; must have demonstrated statistical analysis capabilities
  • Must have experience leading Kaizen events and training teams on lean principles

Summary

The Senior Software Engineer will report to the Software Engineering Lead. The Software Engineering department strives to deliver high-quality software that provides our customers with the capabilities they need to access and manage the data acquired by our sensors and loggers. We focus on ease-of- use for maximum end-user benefit, maintenance of the integrity of our customers' data, and extensibility of the products to facilitate short development cycles for new features and hardware support. The Senior Software Engineer will act as part of a team to design, code, and debug enterprise back-end components to multiple enterprise applications. 

Responsibilities

  • Participate in design and development efforts for new releases of Onset software products and updates to existing products
  • Assist other developers on technologies selected and used within the projects
  • Effectively communicate progress/problems to management, QA, and other departments within the organization
  • Be responsible for innovation, design, and development of new product models and features
  • Suggest and champion new technologies or technical improvements that will improve usability, stability, and maintainability of the application
  • Participate in software development and maintenance infrastructure enhancement efforts

Qualifications

Required

  • Excellence in writing server-side application logic in Java or another JVM-based environment
  • Strong understanding of modern web architectures.
  • Experience with back-end communication with web and IoT
  • Experience with RESTful, Query, and hybrid APIs using OAuth 2.0
  • Database and ORM experience, with both relational and data warehouse schemas
  • Specific experience or knowledge of Agile/Scrum software development practices and tools

Desired

  • Experience with Git and Maven
  • Experience with Java microservices in Spring Cloud and Spring Boot
  • Experience working with AWS or similar cloud-computing platform

Software Configuration Manager

Summary

The Software Configuration Manager reports to the Software Engineering Lead. The Software Configuration Manager will work with all development teams to handle configuration management for all of Onset’s software projects and products.  

Responsibilities

  • Administer software change-control processes, working with development teams daily to ensure all change-control processes are being followed and that pull requests are being handled properly
  • Coordinate branch management between teams, providing regular guidance on proper branches for features and releases, facilitating software module coordination between projects, and documenting what is in each branch such that it is visible to all teams
  • Create and maintain automated (CI/CD) deployment pipelines and hosted environments, determining policies around what is automated vs deployed on demand
  • Stand up QA environments, performance test clusters, and standby servers for blue-green testing
  • Manage and maintain processes and tools for builds, working with development teams to determine build tools for mobile, desktop, and embedded FW, and working with IT to ensure proper build server infrastructure and connectivity
  • Create release candidate builds for components and applications on all platforms
  • Write deployment plans and execute releases to hosted products, in coordination with dev teams and IT operations
  • Maintain and publish production release schedules, including all configuration items and component dependencies
  • Verify the completeness and correctness of configuration items in release candidate and ready-for-production releases
  • Coordinate with SWE & IT operations to identify configuration items

Technical Sales Representative

Overview 

The Technical Sales Representative is responsible for identifying and qualifying new business opportunities, maximizing sales growth potential, and working within the Onset’s Sales team (Outbound Sales Specialists, Account Development Managers, Channel Managers) to secure new business. Additionally, the position is responsible for providing product selection assistance to customers. The Technical Sales Representative reports to the Sales Manager. 

Qualifications

Responsibilities 

  • Effectively manage all new business leads in order to identify and target new business opportunities; follow up on all customer inquiries directed towards the Sales department related to product selection and application assistance; qualify resulting opportunities by understanding the customers’ application, product usage, market strategy, and production requirements
  • Provide product selection and application assistance to both internal and external customers, including Sales team members, new and prospective customers, and Onset’s authorized distributor personnel
  • Partake in ongoing self-development by identifying focus areas within your current role or opportunities to advance personal career ladder, including the attendance of external sales training workshops; work with the Sales Manager to create and implement corresponding development plan(s)

  • Utilize Onset’s Material Replenishment Planning system (SyteLine) in order to support all customer inquiries as they relate to product pricing and procurement in support of new business opportunities
