If you are using a cable extension, condensation/moisture may have settled on the connection. Dry the cable extension out completely (a hair dryer would be sufficient for this), and make sure that the connection is protected to avoid this in the future.

Inspect the cables for apparent damage/breakage, as moisture may be a factor. Damage to a sensor is not always visible. Follow these directions to see if a sensor is shorting out:

  • Bring a laptop with BoxCar Pro 4.3 installed on it and the interface cable.
  • Connect the HOBO Weather/Micro Station to the computer.
  • Watching the launch screen, unplug the sensors one at a time. Reinsert the sensor if the readings do not return to normal. If the Weather Station starts recording accurate data after you have removed a sensor, this sensor has been damaged and needs replacement.

It is a good idea to bring fresh batteries out to the field with you when performing this function, as the batteries may need replacement.
