The following information is based on an LED display counter that is powered by a 1.5 V lithium battery.

The purpose of the diode is to prevent the batteries in each device from interacting with one another. Use a "Volt-Ohm" meter to determine which are the positive and the negative wires of the counter. Wire the anode of the first diode to the positive side of the counter display as shown in the diagram. Wire the anode of the second diode to the white wire of the Event data logger. Connect the cathode (banded end) ends of the two diodes together to one side of the reed switch. Join the negative leads of the counter and the Event data logger together with the other end of the reed switch. A 1N4148 diode is used in the example, but nearly any silicon
