Can I use my light intensity data logger outdoors?

The HOBO HLI and the StowAway light intensity data loggers can be used outdoors, if they are placed in a waterproof container with desiccant packs. If the container is curved or varying in thickness, the case may act as a lens, either concentrating or dispersing the light passing through it, leading to incorrect readings.

Some of our customers have had success in creating their own waterproof cases for the HOBO HLI and StowAway light data loggers, using petri dishes. The data logger is placed inside with desiccant packs, and the dish is sealed together with silicon. You must be absolutely positive that the container is completely sealed, or the desiccants will work against you, drawing moisture in. Please note that this application is not guaranteed by us.
