BOURNE, MA, November 1, 2005 — Onset Computer Corporation, a leading supplier of battery-powered data loggers and weather stations, today introduced the HOBO® Pendant Event Logger, a miniature, low-cost data logger for measuring and recording rainfall and air temperature.
The logger connects to most standard tipping-bucket rain gauges to record rainfall rates and duration, thus eliminating the need to manually read rain gauges. Unlike most rainfall loggers, which record rainfall activity at fixed intervals, the HOBO Pendant Event records data with each tip of the rain gauge bucket. This is a particular advantage in applications where peak rainfall rates need to be determined. An internal temperature sensor enables the logger to be used in a solar radiation shield to measure temperature. Other features include:
- Convenient, connector-free data offload: The HOBO Pendant Event offloads data to a PC via a convenient USB-based optical interface, which provides high-speed, reliable data offload in wet environments. Its optical design eliminates the need for failure-prone mechanical connectors found in traditional outdoor data logging products.
- Easy, intuitive software: For plotting and analyzing data, Onset offers HOBOware® 2.1 software, a highly intuitive graphing and analysis software package. HOBOware provides a user-friendly graphical user interface and enables users to look at rainfall data in fine detail and summarize the data into hourly, daily, or monthly amounts.
- Large memory: The HOBO Pendant Event logger offers twice the memory of previous versions, enabling users to record up to 160 inches of rainfall data with a 0.01-inch rain gauge. Additionally, because rainfall data is stored as rain gauge 'tips,' memory is not used up during periods of no rain.
