Software Quality Manager

Summary 

The Software Quality Manager will play an important role in developing new product applications. By working closely with developers and product managers, the Software Quality Manager will be responsible for ensuring that Onset software releases are of the highest quality. The ideal candidate will have significant experience with mobile, web, and desktop domains, and software automation frameworks, and familiarity with the Agile product development methodology. This position reports to the Director of Engineering technical leader, providing oversight and management of a functional team.

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Develop and grow automated frameworks for test automation; maintain and ensure development activities are in line with automation goals
  • Support multiple product development teams with estimation, planning, and strategy for testing mobile, desktop, and web applications
  • Be responsible for the technical content and deliverables for the software quality (SQA) team
  • Work with engineering leadership to provide resource prioritization and allocation of SQA team members to support the needs of multiple project teams and sustaining projects; m; manage resource constraints as necessary
  • Take ultimate responsibility for the quality and efficiency of software test related activities
  • Advocate for SQA best practices across engineering; influence developer unit testing to promote SQA test efficiency
  • Analyze and understand market requirements, use cases and technical requirements, participate in requirements vetting activities, and ensure team members understand customer usage models
  • Organize and lead continuous improvement activities as a member of the engineering leadership team, to improve process, investigate and qualify tools, and develop test frameworks or techniques to benefit future projects
  • Perform (project-level) test lead duties when needed, to include stakeholder reporting and test plan development
  • As a manager, monitor team performance, recruit and mentor SQA team members, and liaise between cross-functional teams
  • Develop extensible Software SQA Test Plans that cover functional, performance, regression, end user, performance, integration, load, and scalability
  • Act as steward of the Onset Lean Product Development (OLPD) process, requirements and functional guidelines, and standards and tools.
  • Encourage independent problem solving and dedication to the quality of deliverables from the engineering team

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science preferred, or equivalent with 7-10 years of experience
  • Demonstrated ability to act as change agent and evolve team from low-level processes (such as manual testing) to high-level processes and automation
  • Experience with embedded systems
  • Strong communication and influencing skills; professional business mindset
  • Proven team management and leadership in a matrix, multi-project environment.
  • Experience developing testing strategies for both application and system level platforms
  • Familiarity with the Agile methodology and scrums
  • Experience working in different product development and test environments, including Jira and Confluence
  • Experience with automation tools, including Selenium, Cucumber, TestComplete, SOAPUI, and others
  • Strong knowledge of testing principles, concepts, techniques, and tools
  • Scripting programming language experience, such as Python
