Quality Engineer


The Quality Engineer will develop the quality planning that supports operational quality objectives while maintaining current interpretations of quality system requirements to ensure that documented practices meet the true interpretation of the quality management system standards.

The Quality Engineer will ensure that the quality of the parts produced at Onset meet all customer expectations, and will work to quickly and effectively take action when non-conformances are identified. The Quality Engineer will proactively work to identify non-conformances, determine the root causes, and develop solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, apply, and improve/maintain quality requirements and standards through all key processes - from receipt and incoming inspection of supplied components and assemblies through manufacturing and shipment of product

  • Design and implement methods for process control, process improvement, testing, and inspection
  • Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, test methodology, quality plans, and documentation
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to the quality management system that result in improved quality performance, increased customer satisfaction, and/or simplification of processes to reduce costs
  • Support ISO 9001 certification with a focus on improving the QMS (Quality Management System)
  • Interface with suppliers and external and internal customers regarding product quality, and implement effective and appropriate corrective actions
  • Work closely with purchasing to support the supplier management program
  • Work closely with engineering, manufacturing engineering, sales, and technical service to implement product improvements and design changes
  • Keep current with the status of project-related tasks at the supplier and track supplier performance metrics
  • Perform supplier visits and conduct supplier audits as needed
  • Execute the duties of the position such that the focus is largely proactive versus reactive
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, and making recommendations
  • Effectively use problem-solving and quality-improvement tools and techniques, work with other engineers involved at the manufacturing level to ensure product quality, and participate in Continuous Improvement Program
  • Lead continuous-improvement teams and other activities to determine actions to improve the quality system and reduce the cost of quality

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, prefer Manufacturing or Mechanical
  • 3 plus years’ working as a Quality Engineer within a manufacturing facility managing a certified quality management system (e.g. ISO9001, TS16949, ISO13485)
  • Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) a plus
  • Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) a plus
  • Demonstrated results in leading Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA) teams
  • Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience interfacing directly with Suppliers and Customers
  • Function effectively as a member of a cross-functional team
  • Proven ability to apply Six Sigma principles
  • Thorough understanding of Quality philosophies, principles, tools, techniques, and standards
  • Six Sigma/Black/Green Belt Certification a plus
  • ISO17025 knowledge a plus
  • Must be proficient in MS Office
  • Experience with quality software applications for statistical analysis, Minitab a plus
