Remote Water Level Monitoring

    

The combination of the HOBO Remote Monitoring System/GSM and a third-party water level sensor with an analog output provides a solution to remotely monitor water levels and access data via the internet. This system can also send notifications when critical water levels are reached. Typical applications include monitoring wells, groundwater, surface water, storm water and storm surges.

This solution uses a vented water level sensor to get real-time level readings, without needing to use a separate sensor to do barometric pressure compensation. This allows alarm notifications to operate directly from the sensor readings. The water level sensor can be directly connected to the Analog Sensor Port of the U30 station.

Deployment Tips:

• A desiccant tube or aneroid bellows is required for keeping moisture out of the vent tube to protect the sensor and for accurate measurements. The vent tube from the desiccant tube to the atmosphere gets routed through one of the weatherproof sensor cable openings. Note that the desiccant tube may require modification to fit inside the U30 enclosure, which is onl;y 5.25 inches acrosss. The alternative is to mount the desiccant in an external junction box.

• Be sure the wells with the sensors have a vent hole to the atmosphere.

• We recommend buying the HOBO Remote Monitoring System/GSM with the 10 input option because that provides a weatherproof pass through for the water level sensor cable.
