BoxCar® & BoxCar® Pro and the Macintosh Environment

Onset no longer sells a Macintosh version of BoxCar or BoxCar Pro, however, a Macintosh version (Ver.3.5d2) of BoxCar is available as explained above. The most recent version of BoxCar Pro requires any MacOS version 7.5x up to 9.x with 2 megabytes of free RAM. Note: Logger communication is not supported on MacOSx (10.x) even under classic compatibility (9.x) mode. There is no warranty on the freeware BoxCar product. Technical support is available for registered users via e-mail. For those who require the features of the latest release of BoxCar Pro or wish to operate the HOBO Weather Station, HOBO Water Temp Pro, HOBO LCD Temp/RH, Thermocouple, or Carbon Monoxide loggers on Virtual PC software (from Connectix) - Some users have had success running BoxCar Pro versions 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2 on Virtual PC on their Macintosh computers. This has allowed them to take advantage of the features of BoxCar Pro and use some of the newer loggers and HandCar. You can try using Virtual PC in your application, but you should be aware that Onset is not currently able to support users in this environment. Also note that the HOBO Water Temp Pro can not be used with Macintosh computers without a built-in serial port. A more advanced Macintosh product will be developed if/when demand supports it. Requirements

In order to run this software you need to have:

• A PowerPC running any MacOS version 7.5.x up to version 9.x with 2 Megabytes of free RAM. Logger communication is not supported on MacOS x (10.x) even under classic compatibility (9.x) Mode.

• An interface cable (Onset part number: CABLE-MAC-HOBO) between the Mac and logger and additionally, the Optic Base Station (Onset part number DSA) for Optic StowAways, TidbiTs and TidbiT XTs. To order either of these products, please email Onset Computer or call (508) 759-9500 or contact your authorized Onset dealer.

Accessories

• In addition to the BoxCar Pro software for Macintosh, an interface cable will be required to connect the logger to the computer. If you are using an Optic StowAway or StowAway TidbiT data logger you will also need to purchase an Optic Base Station which includes both an Optic Coupler and TidbiT Coupler. Attention iMAC G3 & G4 Users

• The iMAC and the G3 and G4 model Power MACs do not have an RS232 serial port which Onset loggers need for data communication. At this time BoxCar and BoxCar Pro can't be run on G3 and G4 models due to the lack of a USB to serial adapter that is compatible with Virtual PC.

This is a free (without warranty) version of BoxCar for MacOS.
